G Douglas Bundy, Sax, Clarinet, Keys

G Douglas Bundy is a multifaceted musician, educator, and innovator based in Portland, Oregon, with a rich history in both performance and teaching. He plays clarinet, saxophone, keys, guitar, drums, and vocals. He is a founding member of several musical groups that perform regularly including: The Bundy Band, The BundyBand “Sweet Preserves” Traditional Jazz Band, The Walkaways, Boogaloo Ferrigno, Woodland Empire, The Loungetastics, and the 12th Avenue Hot Club. Additionally, Bundy was a founding member of Groove Revelation, a band that emerged during Portland’s Acid Jazz Explosion in the late 1990s and continues to perform original compositions characterized by explosive improvisation and dynamic rhythms. 

John Savage, Flute, Alto

Composer, performer, flutist, and saxophonist John C. Savage has been compared to Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Herbie Mann, Noah Howard, Ian Anderson, and Colin Stetson. Savage has performed with musical luminaries including Andrew Hill, Esperanza Spalding, Vinny Golia, The Temptations, Kris Davis, David Ornette Cherry, Holland Andrews, Keith Underwood, Marty Ehrlich, Ken Ollis, Mark Dresser, Michael Gamble, Matana Roberts, Esther Lamneck, John Gross, Gordon Lee, Curtis Fowlkes, Ken Ollis, André St. James, Mel Brown, Robert Dick, Darrell Grant, BlipVert, and NEA Jazz Masters Roscoe Mitchell and Reggie Workman. His chamber music ensemble, Re:Soundings Trio (with pianist Dana Reason and oboeist Catherine Lee), collaborated with Roscoe Mitchell on a recent version of the composer’s Nonaah (Wide Hive Records 2020).

Savage has also been featured on several releases with Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble (PJCE) Records as a leader or co-leader, including Demolition Duo, Senses Sharpened, The Black Heron and the Spoonbill, and as a large ensemble member on Oregon Stories, From Maxvilled to Vanport, and Ekta: The Unity Suite. In 2023 Savage and PJCE Records released Lie Very Still’s Nova Pangaea, a climate suite written by Savage featuring Mike Gamble, Shao Way Wu, and Ken Ollis. He also collaborates with the poet Claudia Saleeby Savage as Thick In The Throat Honey, and recently composed and performed a poetry and music composition with PJCE entitled, In the Dark Your Anthem Comes America.

Tracy Kim, Guitar

Tracy Kim is one of the most sought after guitar players in the Pacific Northwest. He leads several bands and has been a part of the musical fabric of Portland, Oregon for nearly four decades. He also has a flourishing private studio and leads performing workshops focusing on Macouche/Roma jazz and swing styles.

He co-wrote MTV’s Teen Mom “Get Away” with McKinley, and the song “Deep,” which was featured in NBC’s “Life” Episode #109. He also co-wrote all songs and produced Muriel Stanton’s cd, “The Way You Love Me”. He composed the score for the films, “Devil’s in My Coffee” and “The Good Lot”. He wrote the music of for the TV commercials, Maloy’s Jewelry Workshop” and “GC”, and he wrote the music for the multi-media / modern dance performance, “Edgar Stories”, a modern ballet commissioned by Dance Theater of Oregon.

Tracy’s passion for the guitar comes through when he says, “I grew up in a house filled with music. From a young age, I would be either listening to my mom play the piano or I would be blasting records. I couldn’t get music out of my head. I got my first guitar when I was eight years old and have had a love affair with it ever since. I can’t imagine living without it.”

Tyler Smith, Bass

Tyler Smith was born and raised in Portland, OR and grew up surrounded by music. As the son of a band director and grandson of another, a life of was music unavoidable. Having the benefit of wonderful public school music teachers and brilliant private bass teachers, Tyler not only has a great depth of understanding of music but relishes his role in any band.

After graduating college, Tyler went to work playing with anybody going anywhere. If it’s a swing, rock, country, Americana , gypsy jazz, blues, or a musical, Tyler will be ready.

In addition to being a capable sideman, Tyler has also spent years leading other projects like the Rock-tet, Groove Revelation, the Bundy Band, and the Famous Mashed Potatoes, all of which feature his original tunes.

Ken Ollis, Drums

For more than 3 decades Ken has been driving musical ensembles with his expressive and explosive approach to the Drumset. He has performed extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, and has played with a variety of musicians including: Kenny Werner, Ingrid Jensen, Julian Priester, The Drifters, Bud Shank, John Stowell, John Gross, Dan Balmer, Chata Addy, Rob Blakeslee, Rich Halley, Glen Moore, and many others.

Most recently, his projects have included work with Dominique Eade, The BundyBand “Sweet Preserves”, Heather Masse (from The Wailin’ Jennys), Aoife O’Donovan (from Crooked Still), Pepe and The Bottle Blondes, The Rocket, Paxselin Quartet, and several other groups. Ken also regularly performs in collaboration with painters, poets, dancers, and cinematographers. His compositions are featured in the repertoire of the Paxselin Quartet, the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, PDX Ensemble, The Chamber of Commerce, and in his own groups.
